MultiChoice announces DSTV price increase amid consumer backlash
MultiChoice Ghana (DSTV) has announced a 15% increase in subscription prices across all packages, effective April 1, 2025.
This marks the third price hike in less than two years, following two increases in 2024, which sparked outrage among subscribers.
Consumer advocacy group CUTS International has raised concerns over the short notice given to customers regarding the latest price adjustment.
The organization is urging DSTV to adopt a fairer approach in communicating price changes to subscribers.
"This short notice period may not have given subscribers adequate time to review their options or make necessary adjustments.
Respect for consumers is fundamental in any market, particularly where services are paid for in advance and on a recurring basis," CUTS International stated in a press release.
The group further emphasized that transparent and timely communication is essential for maintaining trust and fostering positive customer relationships.
Ghanaian subscribers are not alone in their frustration.
When MultiChoice Nigeria announced a similar price increase, Nigerian consumers strongly opposed the move, forcing a reconsideration of the decision.
With mounting concerns from consumer rights organizations, it remains to be seen whether DSTV Ghana will adjust its stance on the latest price increment.![]()
